The newly appointed Board of Hen Mpoano paid a courtesy call on Hon. Emelia Arthur, Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture (MoFA), to introduce its new members and reaffirm the organization’s continued commitment to sustainable fisheries reform and marine conservation in Ghana.
Led by Mr. Kofi Agbogah, Director of Hen Mpoano, the visit formed part of efforts to strengthen collaboration with the Ministry and to reaffirm the organization’s long-standing partnership in advancing Ghana’s fisheries governance agenda.
During the meeting, the Board highlighted Hen Mpoano’s continued financial, technical, and policy support to the Ministry and other state institutions over the years. They reiterated the organization’s dedication to promoting community-based fisheries governance, Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), and the inclusion of gender-responsive approaches in coastal resource management.
“Our work has always been about turning policy into practice,” said Mr. Agbogah. “Through technical partnerships and grassroots engagement, we’ve seen how collaboration with the Ministry can drive real impact for fishers, communities, and the marine environment.”
The meeting also provided an opportunity to formally invite Hon. Emelia Arthur to serve as a Keynote Speaker at Hen Mpoano’s upcoming Twin Project Launch, where the organization will unveil two new projects aimed at strengthening fisheries resilience and intensifying advocacy against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Ghana’s coastal communities.
In her remarks, the Minister commended Hen Mpoano for its steadfast support and commitment to advancing sustainable fisheries management. She acknowledged the organization’s vital role in complementing the Ministry’s work at both the policy and community levels particularly its contributions to marine governance, advocacy, and capacity-building interventions.
The Minister further congratulated the newly constituted Board and encouraged its members to provide visionary leadership that strengthens Hen Mpoano’s institutional impact and strategic alignment with national fisheries goals.
Hen Mpoano expressed gratitude for the Minister’s continuous support and reaffirmed its readiness to deepen collaboration with MoFA in driving reforms that ensure healthy oceans, resilient coastal communities, and equitable fisheries management across Ghana.
