The Enhancing Community-based Forest management of biologically important Rainforest in Southwest Ghana is a one-year project with which, implementation begun in 2024 with funding from the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF). The project seeks to establish a framework that promotes the conservation of the Takoradi Forest District through the collaborative efforts of the Forestry Commission and communities.
This project aims to protect wildlife and restore degraded habitats in the Cape Three Points and Subri River GSBAs by strengthening community-based forest monitoring and enforcement.
It aims to enhance CFMTs through capacity building, advanced spatial monitoring technologies, and real-time deforestation alerts for targeted enforcement.
To restore ecological connectivity, the project will expand community nurseries and plant 20,000 native trees. Additionally, it will support forest-dependent households with ecosystem-based livelihoods such as beekeeping and honey production while promoting financial resilience through Village Savings and Loan Associations’ ( VSLAs), particularly for women.
Lastly, the project will enhance organizational performance through HR capacity-building, leadership training, structured on-boarding, and robust HR policies to improve staff efficiency and institutional effectiveness.
