Hen Mpoano Wins “Best Fisheries Advocate” Award at the 2024 Responsible Fishing Awards

Hen Mpoano is proud to announce that we have been awarded the prestigious Best Fisheries Advocate title at the 2024 Responsible Fishing Awards, organized by Ghana’s Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development (MoFAD). This recognition stands as a powerful testament to our unwavering dedication to advancing sustainable fishing practices and marine conservation within Ghana’s coastal communities.

This award further reflects the collective efforts of the Hen Mpoano team, our partners, and all stakeholders who share our vision for a thriving, healthy marine ecosystem.

Over the years, Hen Mpoano has actively engaged with communities, policy-makers, and organizations to promote initiatives that support the responsible use of marine resources. Our mission is centered on empowering local fishers and coastal communities with knowledge, tools, and alternatives that foster sustainable practices and protect Ghana’s rich marine biodiversity.

Receiving this award is an acknowledgment of our commitment and a call to further our work in marine conservation. As we celebrate this achievement, we reaffirm our dedication to educating, advocating, and creating lasting partnerships that prioritize sustainable fisheries management and coastal resilience. In particular, our on going projects like Ghana Fisheries Recovery Activity (GFRA) funded by USAID, the Women in Fisheries against Violence (WiFVEs) project for women’s empowerment funded by the European Union , and the Sustainable Oceans Project collaborative which touches on clam fisheries management which is funded by the Norweigan Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) highlight our approach to fostering positive change across Ghana’s coastal regions.

We are deeply grateful to MoFAD for this honor and to our dedicated team whose hard work makes our vision a reality. We also extend our appreciation to the communities and partners who continue to support our mission. Together, we can drive even greater impact, inspiring responsible fishing practices that protect our oceans for generations to come.

Hen Mpoano invites all those passionate about marine conservation to join us on this journey. Let’s collaborate to preserve our oceans, empower communities, and secure a sustainable future for Ghana’s fisheries.
