Enhancing Conservation Benefits in Coastal Communities through the establishment of Integrated Bee Keeping and Agroforestry Center (EnCoBBAC) Project
this one (1) year project Funded by the 11th Hour Project (The schmidt Family Foundation), is an initiative that intents to support coastal communities in adapting to climate change through sustainable livelihoods and resilience-building strategies. By implementing climate-smart agricultural practices, the project looks to enhance food security and provide training on disaster preparedness and response.
This initiative also looks to create opportunities for NGOs, community-based organizations (CBOs), and local groups to engage in shared learning, reflection, and strategic discussions on advancing agroecology, strengthening Ghana’s food systems, and promoting food sovereignty.
At the heart of the project is the establishment of a Beekeeping Training Center in Asanta is a critical step in promoting environmentally friendly beekeeping methods, enhancing local beekeeping expertise, and addressing the alarming decline in bee populations. This initiative will provide employment opportunities in beekeeping while improving ecological health and boosting agricultural productivity in the region.
The project is designed and aligns with eight Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): No Poverty (1), Zero Hunger (2), Good Health and Well-being (3), Quality Education (4), Gender Equality (5), Climate Action (13), Life Below Water (14), and Life on Land (15).
The construction of the Beekeeping Training Center within the Greater Amanzule Wetland (GAW) Area will ensure long-term impact on both livelihoods and biodiversity.
