Augustine Abotsi

Augustine Mawulorm Abotsi is a Fisheries Officer at Hen Mpoano, with a focus on combating Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing. He holds a degree in Fisheries and Aquatic Science from the University of Cape Coast and has been instrumental in the implementation of key fisheries governance projects and initiatives. Augustine has played a pivotal role in the establishment and strengthening of co-management structures, including the Small Pelagic Co-management Committees (SPCCs) and Landing Beach Enforcement Committees (LaBECs). Beyond enforcement and governance, he actively engages in training, community sensitization, and research in fisheries and ecological assessments. His work supports the achievement of several Sustainable Development Goals—SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 14 (Life Below Water),by advancing sustainable marine resource management, building local capacity, and fostering inclusive stakeholder participation.
